Every major content patch brings out the folks that leap at the opportunity to stockpile things that they know will be money-makers.
Personally, I’ve never been great at making gold. I just don’t have the gift to remember prices of things on the auction house, nor the desire to write everything down. My gold comes from the few daily quests I have to FORCE myself to do, but mostly from picking herbs. When I say “picking herbs”, I mean the herbs I pick when I can get my ass out of Dalaran. If I’m doing nothing in-game, I’m usually running around the stairs near one of the banks in Dalaran. (SOMETIMES…I am actually conversing with someone in /whisper, or /officer, or what-have-you…but usually I’m just gabbing in vent and running around in circles like a moron.)
The herbs I pick go either to my alchemist to make flasks for myself or for the guild bank, or to the auction house. The past few nights I’ve picked a small amount of herbs, and I plan to pick more to stockpile. The real winner of course will be Frost Lotus, if not the various flasks the Lotus make, that are a virtual requirement for raiding. Many elixirs are great as well, and I know some of my guildmates prefer elixirs depending on the situation.
Enchanting mats are always a good one, new raids and new heroics mean new gear. The same can be said for gems and popular gem cuts, and even leatherworking leg armor or spellthread.
The obvious stuff that will DROP in price will be things like Crusader Orbs- anything that is used to produce current i-level gear will drop in value from where it is now, making it more accessible to folks not running current content.
The real question is…what is YOUR “thing” you’ll be trying to horde (cough) to reap profits on when the patch hits?
